Periscope, the live video broadcasting and streaming service which Twitter acquired earlier this year, has reached another milestone, it now has more than 10 million registered accounts within four months. Periscope has grown quite a lot since it was formally bought by Twitter, outpacing its biggest rival, Meerkat. However, out of the total 10 million registered users it has only 1.9 million daily active users on iOS and Android devices. And apparently the Periscope team is more focused on a different metric: total time watched per day. As of now, its users watch 40 years of video every day.
With this milestone, Periscope brings another update for its users. The update brings in features some of which should have been there since day one, like being able to change your profile picture. And now with this new updates, Periscope users are now allowed to change their profile photo or image and edit their username. The update also ups usability of the app. It's now easier to reply to comments and is equally easy to see replies to you. The chatrooms also now broadcast when someone has been blocked for one reason or another. Periscope says it's to increase transparency and accountability, perhaps to prevent chatroom owners from going into a power trip.
Here we provide you a step by step guide on how to change your username, bio and how to edit your profile picture.
Editing your Twitter username will not change your Periscope username. But, your Periscope will stay connected to the Twitter account it was originally created with. Unfortunately, we're not able to detach or change out Twitter accounts at this time. Deleting your Periscope will not free up the @username or Twitter account you originally used so you can use it for another account.
If you'd just like to create a second Periscope account with a different Twitter handle, you can log out by going to your Periscope profile (top right corner when you're on the People Tab) and scroll to the bottom. There, you can log out and can create another account using a different Twitter account.
You'll be able to edit your photo, display name and edit your bio inline. We currently don’t support the ability to edit your username
2. Update the photo in Periscope. You can change your profile photo by going to your profile page and tapping on your profile photo. You'll be prompted to update your photo by picking one from your camera roll/gallery or taking one with your camera. Once you do this, you won't be able update your profile photo through Twitter anymore.
