How to find and follow people on Periscope?

Periscope is a live video streaming app by Twitter that lets you live stream or broadcast to all your followers. You can also watch and follow other people doing broadcasts on it. Now that Twitter’s outrageous Periscope apps has gone and blown up the internet, many users are wondering “who should I follow on Periscope that won’t completely waste my time”. 

If you find someone interesting or showing interesting videos, you can follow them so that you can easily find them. If a person you’re following is doing live broadcasts, you can easily see it from your main dashboard on the app.

However, for a newbie, trying to find new people to follow on Periscope can be a real hassle. We've been talking about Periscope for a while now, and we've covered most of the basics. Finding new users to follow is definitely difficult unless they are broadcasting and pop up into your global feed. Relax, we will guide you through on how to find people and follow them.

What does it mean to follow someone on Periscope?

If you follow someone:

1. You will be invited to join their public broadcasts via push notifications, if your push notifications are enabled.

2. Their broadcasts will appear in your Watch Tab for 24 hours.

3. They can invite you to watch other peoples’ public broadcasts.

4. You can chat in their limited broadcasts.

5. Anyone you follow can invite you to their private broadcasts.

How to find and follow people on Periscope?

1. Launch Periscope: First thing, locate the app on your phone and tap on it. The app logo has a picture of a periscope on cyan background. If you’ve used the app before, you won’t need to log in again. Once you tap you will be brought to your main dashboard screen. The list of people you are following that are live and that have recently broadcasted will be shown.

2. Tap the people icon on the bottom toolbar: Tap the People Tab to find a list of suggested users to follow.  The People Tab helps you find interesting people to follow by listing ‘Featured People,’ people you are ‘Following on Twitter’ and ‘Most Loved’ people (users who have received the most hearts). Please note that Periscope doesn't import any of your Twitter followers or those you are following.

3. Scroll through the list: You can see their profile pictures, number of followers, and descriptions of the Most Loved people, so it’s easy for you to gauge if you’d like to follow him or her.

4. Follow someone: If you find someone you’d like to follow, tap the button with a plus sign right beside his or her name. The button will be changed to a solid check. You’re now following him or her, and all his or her videos will be displayed on your dashboard.

5. Follow broadcaster: The name of the broadcaster will be quickly shown in a bottom box on the video. Tap the button with the plus sign right beside his or her name. The button will be changed to a solid check. You’re now following him or her, and all his or her videos will be displayed on your dashboard.

6. Search people: You can search for specific people by:

# Tapping the People Tab.

# Tapping the magnifying glass icon on the top left.

# Entering their name(s) in the search bar.

# To follow anyone, just tap the "+" icon!

How to manage push notifications on Periscope?

For iOS Devices:

1.  You can turn off notifications for when a new user follows you by:

#Tapping the People Tab in your information panel.

# Tapping the Profile icon on the top right of your People Tab.

# Tapping Settings.

# Toggling ‘User Follows You’ to off in your Profile settings.

2. You can unfollow people who you no longer want to see any push notifications from (there’s no shame in unfollowing noisy culprits!)

3. You can turn off all push notifications for Periscope too!

# Go to your device settings.

# Scroll down to find Periscope.

# Click on Notifications.

# Toggle Allow Notifications to off.

For Android Devices:
1.  You can turn off notifications for when a new user follows you by: 
# Tapping the Profile icon on the top right of your People Tab. 
# Tapping Settings. 
# Turn on/off the notifications you'd like to receive. 

2. You can unfollow people who you no longer want to see any push notifications from (there’s no shame in unfollowing noisy culprits!)

3. You can turn off all push notifications for Periscope too!

# Go to your device settings.

# Scroll down to Sounds and Notifications.

# Tap App Notifications.

# Scroll down to Periscope.

# Choose which notifications you would like to turn off/on.
